OK Mr. Pepper,

Sounds like you want to compare passport stamps with me, eh?  I never said (or assumed) that you hadn't traveled - only that you hadn't heard enough from folks to understand their perceptions of America.  Cultures are vastly different - no amount of translation can help us to understand completely how others think, but it helps to get a broad database from which to work.

I'm not going to address your issues point by point other than to say that there is room for disagreement and opposing views within the Tea Party. My main issue with you initially was your rush to label people.  I suppose you are aware that the Neo-Con label is usually applied to former "liberals" (although they are nothing of the sort - I prefer to use a more appropriate moniker - socialist/communist/liar/atheist/progressive, etc.) who have come to see the error of their ways and moved out of the dark and into the sunlight.  I don't think this characterization is appropriate to Ann Coulter.

It might surprise you that I agree with many of the eleven point you made in an earlier posting.  However, hyperbole doesn't make the argument stronger.  The USA is not, and has never been, an empire.

Getting back to your assertion that I assumed you had not traveled, what I have learned through my travels is that, especially with Muslims of all kinds (Shi'a, Sunni, Sufi, etc.) is that they have completely shut out anything that does not agree with their world view as interpreted by and through their clerical community.  They hate us for religious reasons not bombing.  They also hate us for the sins of what once was an empire - the British Empire, even though they were often left in better shape when the Brits left.  It's a cultural "oil and water" issue that might never be resolved.  We've delivered more tonnage of food than we have munitions, yet the hate remains.

Already too long, this post will end with a request that we all keep to the facts as a basis for our opinions.  Otherwise we'll never come to a reasonable conclusion to enable us to defeat the REAL enemies of America - who reside within our borders. Those are the folks we have most to fear. Let's not waste any more energy on "friendly fire."

Best wishes to all,

Bill

To All...

Ann Coulter was fantastic!  Her humorous take on those politically traumatic issues were just what the doctor ordered...much needed to avoid the constant gut-wrenching  frustrations that makes one wonder if a chemically induced coma might be the only cure for this Marxist enviornment we find the Democrats embracing.  As she stated;  the liberals desire absolute power over America's future..."they would rather rule over HELL, then serve in HEAVEN".

A breath of fresh air with energy to spare...she lit the room up with laughter and images of encouragement for the future.  To the Libs she's a radical, to us she's the loyal constitutional conservative we all strive to be.  Each day we  find ourselves confronting ridicule for our beliefs in God, family and country.  Ann reminds us that America is not the Nation-Building Imperialistic Empire the Libs want you to believe,  but rather the God fearing exception willing to sacrifice all for the freedom of others.

She has provided the internal fortitude to go forward with the Tea Party Mission  and she confirmes it is the right mission.    Ann Coulter is the messenger!   If you missed her appearance, you have missed one of lifes moments of inspiration.  Try to catch her next time, if there is one.

aspire to inspire...before...we retire or expire

Hey Brett,

First of all; good morning.  My golden rule (when I have the sense to adhere to it) is to first and foremost do no harm and if that does not work stick a boot in their ars.  I am an American and I don't crawl before anyone; period.

I hope your day goes well.  I'm heading off to see Ann in a bit here.  Keep smiling man.

Bill,

I'm sorry if my hypothetical scenario offended I believe in the golden rule "do unto others....". I think most Americans would agree we need a second look at our foreign policy. We send the very dictators we end up bombing, billions of tax payer dollars in foreign aid. It just doesn't make good sense.

Either we are country that is governed by the constitution and bill of rights or we are not. I hope you enjoy the townhall and look forward to more fruitfull discussions. I must ask though: Why do you assume I haven't traveled?

Mr. Pepper,

Please, before you make any hypothetical arguments (i.e. Mexican bombing activities on my abode), you might want to travel a bit and hear first-hand from folks in other countries about their perceptions of America.  Most, if they live in an oppressed society, would welcome American help in ridding themselves of their despots - think Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Robert Mugabe, etc.  I have traveled to these places so I feel that I have a fairly accurate picture of how their perceptions have been formed.  In almost ALL cases that I've had the opportunity to study, the hatred you mention has been scripted for the uninformed masses by the despots themselves (Think Hugo Chavez here for example.).  I can understand your Christian empathy for those killed by accident (yes, accident).  Unlike Saddam Hussein, Americans do not intentionally kill innocents - Mi Lai excepted (deranged individual there anyway).  As Gary Munson mentioned in his reply to you, American has little to repent or apologize for with regard to foreign conflicts.  Collateral damage is an inelegant way to describe it, but that term is accurate.  When the cowards hide behind innocents, you are going to have some collateral damage.  Nonetheless, you still go after the cowards (terrorists) and hope that your aim is true.

Please remember that the current conflicts came our way, either through direct action of terrorists (Afghanistan) or through progressives/liberals/socialists/communists/Democrat policies that gutted our intelligence services as well as the military (Iraq).  When the world perceives America as weak, rogue nations will do their evil - think Iran here.  Nobody wants to go to war, but if you must, then do it right and go all the way.  Obama's dithering has cost us more lives in a shorter timeframe.

I'm glad you feel strongly about these issues.  Passion will help us rid ourselves of ineffective leaders.  But there is a fine line between passion and misinformation.  This thread started with your accusation of Ann Coulter being a Neo-Con which I think is off base.  Ann IS provocative, but she almost has to be that just to overcome the mainstream media's agenda.  Maybe we can talk in greater depth at a future Tea Party meeting.  I still plan to attend Ann's program and have the book signed.  I'll ask her about your perspective on Neo-Conservatism.

Thanks for the spirited discussion.  You can call me Bill, by the way.  William makes me feel much older than my 62+ years.

Gary,

Thanks for the comment. The "Pops" comment was in retort to your assumption of my age and life experiences. I meant no disrespect and hope we can lean on one another for more engaging conversation and debate. After all the founders didn't agree on everything either! But I think we can all come together to preserve freedom and liberty for future generations as did those before us. Enjoy the townhall and I hope I'm wrong about Ann's views and she is doing all she can to further the cause of Liberty.

Mr. Pepper...I do not necessarily agree with your philosophy on many of the topics that you have addressed, however I respect your right to have those opinions.   I find no reason to defend my position on these issues as I firmly believe in American exceptionalism as a culture that is indeed dedicated to democracy and feedom for all humanity.  I realize we are also responsible for a degree of heartache throughout the world, relative to that drive toward freedom and liberty.  You make good points, but not sufficiant to cancel out the degree of progress that has been made as a result of American interventions and protections of those seeking liberty.

Keep up the good fight, and truthfully, you should be running for office....but be a little more considerate of those who happen to differ with you.  After all, we all want a peaceful world with God's grace.

And yes...feel free to call me "Pops", thats what my 50 year old son calls me.  ;-)

God Bless...Gary
