Event Description

TFDF of MI is planning a weekend long Juneteenth Celebration beginning Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Pi Banquet in Southfield from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, and a Freedom Rally at Kettering University (International Center) in Flint at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, June 19, 2011, we will celebrate at the Country Club of Lansing at 4:00 p.m.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with the news that the war had ended and that the slaves were now free. This was 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

We celebrate Juneteenth to encourage a continuum of self reliance, excellence, and achievement without bounds. Standards which have been partially lost in distressed urban communities. We intend to use this celebration to advance the values of family and personal responsibility.

The Frederick Douglass Foundation of Michigan (TFDF of MI) is a Christian conservative organization that believes in American values that preserve our national strength and pride. It is our position to retain the principles of equal rights, justice, and opportunity for all through collaborations with pro-active individuals, elected officials, scholars and community activists. We believe in moral, ethical and spiritual representation as it pertains to the individual with an emphasis on pro-life choices and traditional marriage.

It would be great to give a $ 19 donation on the website if your not attending. Help us extend and expand the conservative message to the African-American community.
