Liberty and Freedom
The letter of May 8 is an illustration of the liberal practice of labeling anyone who does not agree with them as racist. The letter postulated “The tea party can’t transcend ethnocentric emotions to a higher concept of the human race”. In a way, the letter is correct. From my standpoint, I see the tea party concerned about the United States of America, not the entire human race. We do not believe that this country can continue to rack up trillion dollar additions to the national debt. The letter claimed that the tea party was enraged over the Obama health care program. Instead, we are concerned that these additional entitlement programs will require money from somewhere.
The ethnocentric comment may come from analysis that show the tea party meetings to be composed mostly of middle class, better educated, white Americans. This is a group that pays income taxes and is concerned how their money is being spent. My experience has been that a many Blacks, Asians and Hispanics who are in a similar situation feel the same. The Glen Beck show has had several shows with these groups as his audience. The key item is concern about the financial health of the United States.
It is clear where the nation is currently headed with all of the liberal spending. We only have to look toward Europe. Greece has just had to initiate a number of austerity measures in order to get the IMF and other EU nations to help the country to avoid bankruptcy. These have included pay cuts to public employees, reductions to pensions, increased taxes etc. The United States is moving toward a similar situation. Tea Party members are against the type of expensive increase in the size of government that has caused the crisis in Greece.
The last comment on the letter infers that the tea party is similar to the John Burch society or McCarthyism. I am surprised that the author did not include the KKK. Again, this is a page out of the liberal playbook. They try to tie any group that they fear to some other group that the general public does not like.
Finally, on thinking about the title of the letter, the author may be correct. The tea party does fear change. We fear that this country will change from a prosperous, generous, inclusive, freedom loving country into a poor, over-controlled third-world country with all personal initiative destroyed."
Comments please. I don't know if the letter will be printed but I had to get this off my chest.
