Southwest MI Patriots

Liberty and Freedom

This is a draft of letter I am composing to send to Gazette. Should I send as Citizen Gene or as Tea Party Patriot? What say you?
********************************************************
It is unfortunate that the town hall meetings that Congressmen and Senators held lately have degenerated into shouting and some in violence. I can see no reason for violence, but I think I do see reason for anger on the part of some citizens.

We have all seen and read of meetings and statements made in the past few months by congressmen to constituents in which they stated that they wanted to end the use of private medical insurance. There are several examples of these statements made in public meetings on ‘YouTube’, an alternate news source. I have even seen and heard clips of President Obama (then Senator or candidate) when he stated that the goal of the Democrat Party was to have single payer, or government medical insurance only.

I have retrieved a copy of the current bill in the House of Representatives (HR3200) and have read it. It clearly sets up conditions that will eventually result in replacing all private health insurance with federal government insurance. This is very clearly set out starting on page 16 of the bill as it exists in the federal government web site www.thomas.gov. The bill states that if you drop your current, private health insurance, you cannot purchase another private policy, you must purchase a policy issued by the federal government. Thus, if you change jobs, or you loose your job, you cannot change to a new private policy, you must take a federal government policy. In following pages there are many other conditions placed upon private insurance policies that will result in those corporations dropping out of the market, which is right in line with what has been promised by Democrat Congressmen.

I have seen President Obama state that you can keep your insurance if you are happy with it. I have seen President Obama answer questions about the policy to the effect that he does not know all that is in it. I have heard Congressmen and Senators state that they don’t have time and do not understand what is in these 1,000 page bills (re: Rep. Waxman (D-CA)).

I personally know others who have read the whole HR3200 bill. I have seen people go into town hall meetings and ask if they can keep their current insurance. When told “yes” by a Senator, Congressman or member of the administration they get very angry because it seems to the citizen that either that person is completely incompetent and has no idea what is in a bill that he ‘supports’ or he does know, but thinks you are too stupid to find out. Either way, the citizens become enraged to be treated that way by people who are supposed to represent them and work for them.

Deep within us something is telling us that we have a group of people in our federal government who no longer feel any connection to us, but instead think that we are unruly and need to be controlled for our own good.

Next, when no one listens, the people start to feel powerless; some become enraged. This is a very dangerous point in the relations between the federal government and the citizens of the United States. I believe this is the point in our history that the State governments must step in and stop all of this, by enforcing the constitution upon the federal government, which was created by the States.

We, the people, need to replace everyone in the federal government. This is the only way to extinguish the current mind set in Washington DC. That mind set is that they are the rulers and they will care for us, whether we like it or not. We need to completely erase the combined memory of a federal government that thinks that benign tyranny has a place in the United States of America. We do this at the ballot box.

FYI about letters to the editor....I had one published last Friday (I gave SW Michigan Patriots some good PR) in the Herald Palladium. I had to keep cutting words out of the letter to make it fit the required guidelines (400 words) and then when it did appear in the paper it was actually edited. There were several points that I wanted to make about the new proposed health bill that they deemed needed to go--taxpayer funded abortion and what this health bill would do to the elderly. Also, the Herald Palladium requires an individual name with the letter--they will call you and confirm that you wrote the letter. I do this a lot so they don't call me anymore but that is their general policy.
Good effort, Gene....but probably way too long( too many words)....They usually want 1 long paragraph max. I would definitely send as Citizen Gene...and for all who care to read....this is my letter to the editors...I sent last week to Jackson Patriot, Saline Reporter and Detroit News

My 89 year old Father, a WWII veteran, survived 8 months in a Nazi prison camp and a 700 mile Death March across Germany. He came home not too healthy, but victorious and raised a large family. He is outraged that Nancy Pelosi has chosen to label his son and his son’s neighbors as Nazi’s. He is outraged that the Obama administration has asked US Citizen’s to snitch on each other, like the Hitler youth.
I am calling on Congressmen Dingell and Congressman Schauer (Saline is split) to condemn these comments by our leaders in Washington and demand an apology to the American People.
I am one of those concerned citizens that are choosing to raise a voice in dissent, because Hillary Clinton said that it is patriotic to do just that! I am very concerned about the Obama/Democrat Health Care plan that seeks to ruin the best medical care in the world. I am concerned about a very foolish Carbon Tax plan that will heavily punish business and job seekers alike, in the name of dubious climate change. I believe that it is the job of Congress to listen to their constituents at home, and not for the folks at home to listen to what Washington tells them to do! It is called representation for a reason!
Recently, the White House had asked supporters “to punch back twice as hard”. Sadly, that has now happened as a St. Louis black conservative activist, was beaten by union thugs at a Town Hall meeting. The “Community Organizer in Chief” should not have a hissy-fit when communities begin to organize!
I tried to attend the Townhall Meeting that Congressman Dingell held last night, but was turned away as the hall was filled. I commend John Dingell’s courage to face his constituents, unfortunately Mark Schauer wants to hide behind a “Telephone Town Hall”
Those politicians’ that choose to ignore the pleas of their constituents do so at their own peril!
Great letter! Please send it to the Herald-Palladium also. I vote for the "Tea Party Patriot" title--"Citizen Gene" makes me think of the French Revolution--we don't want to go there, although it started out on the right foot.

A few minor suggestions--the violent town hall mtgs have been the result of those who SUPPORT Obama's plan, not people like us who oppose it. It's important to distinguish that conservatives are taking the high road on this--it's the liberals who are using intimidation and violent tactics--their true colors showing through when they don't get what they want: absolute power.

The following suggested changes are mostly proofreading-sorry, can't help myself--it's the proofreader in me :)

"loose" in paragraph 3 should be "lose".

Paragraph 5--I would change the punctuation with this to make the meaning clearer: "he ‘supports’ or he does know, but thinks you are too stupid to find out."

Change to: "he 'supports', OR--he DOES know, but thinks you are too stupid to find out." caps or italics would work but I'm not sure the paper would leave italics in.

Paragraph 7--capitalize "Constitution"

Paragraph 8--mind-set should be hyphenated

Paragraph 9--I would make that two sentences with a period after Me". Adds more impact.

Love the last sentence. If you sign on as the author, I'm sure many of the other patriots, myself included, would be happy to sign it also to show our support.
This is very straightforward and well written. I hope you will send it!
Great letter Gene........Thanks for writing that. I believe you should just send it as a citizen Gene, because it will hold more power than if you were to let them know you are a "Rabid Right Wing Conservative"........ Thats just my opinion. But thanks for taking the time to do it......... I appreciate you.

It's not enough to send this letter to our local paper. Their readership is down anyway. I suggest it be also sent to Glenn Beck's Watch Dogs. I also agree that everyone needs to write their own letters whether we are this articulate or not. Send your letter signed Citizen Gene and the SW Michigan Tea Party.

kudos gene, i do think you need to also add some little thing in there about taxation without representation. as in, they think we are to stupid to know the difference. if it walks like a tax and looks like a tax and smells like a tax... it's a frigin' TAX!!! you should also state that this is from the group - the tea party. and also, somewhere where they can contacts us/you. great recruiting possibilities. the more people that can share the same ideas, the better and stronger we may become. and finally our voices will be heard. for that matter, if we get big enough... we could have one of our own candidates on the ballots and then things could roll. the big picture!!! and send it to many papers.
Hi Gene,
This is a good letter but a little long. Do you think they will chop it up? That would be a shame. This is more like an opinion column or editorial because of its length. Because they are labeling the Tea Party people as terrorists it may be better for you to sign it Gene Clem, Citizen.
