Upton a RINO? You bet! -- Response to DetNews Nolan Finley

WTHeck? (keeping it G-rated):

Upton a RINO? Not this Fred

Nolan Finley

Rep. Fred Upton suspects someone may have stolen his identity. The Fred Upton the St. Joseph Republican has been reading about in Washington's political hot sheets has little resemblance to the one he sees in the mirror every morning.

That Fred Upton is a solid conservative who is committed to shrinking both the size and the power of federal government, wants to give taxpayers some of their money back and promises to be a bulwark against environmental regulations that destroy growth and kill American jobs.

That Fred Upton is a loyal party man, with a nearly 100 percent record of voting with the GOP leadership. And that Fred Upton has an exemplary history during 14 years of representing the values of his southwest Michigan District.

"I've always been a conservative, and I always will be," says Upton.

Nolan,
By this Fred, you mean the new Fred who has gotten Conservative religion again? Maybe he needs his eyes checked for near-sightedness.
Here is a reflection of Rep. Upton's record for those who can see clearly: Fred had a paltry 60% rating from Citizens Against Government Waste this year. Hardly Conservative. His meagre 65% lifetime rating shows that his piddly 60% rating is not that much of an anomaly. Other Conservative ratings I have seen are similar: in B- or C+ range.
Among his many liberal votes cited by others, Fred voted for a Bill of Attainder last year, for goodness sakes. Conservative? Has he read the Constitution he swore to uphold, defend, and protect?
I have held my nose and voted for RINO Upton for years. At least he's not a Democrat-Marxist, right? He still has that going for him.
As Portage 2nd Precinct Republican Delegate, I was proud to vote for the true Conservative, Jack Hoogendyk in the Republican primary. Jack gave Fred a good run for his money, and now that the wind blows right, Fred SAYS he's a conservative.
Politicians can say whatever they like. I never believe a politician unless his record backs him up. I've seen Fred Upton's record, and it looks, and smells, like a RINO. I'll believe otherwise when his record reflects otherwise.

He's made some serious pledges this year. Maybe I am naive in my youthful age of 54, but when a man looks me in the eye, signs the "In or Out 2010" pledge - I want to see. If he lied to me, I promise I will tell the world.

He signed the Pledge to America. Do I believe that they can do all of it, NO. Why? because the Senate and Exec office are controlled by commies that have no business in office. Yet, here we are. If Fred goes against any of these pledges, I promise I will tell the world he's a liar. Right now, I have to believe he will do what's right and be a man of his word. He is - after all - our US Congressman for the next two years. After that, I told him he needs to endorse someone else, because he will no longer have that opportunity. We must get term limits on the ballot in 2012 and a balanced budget amendment.

Yes, I promise to work hard for Jack H in 2012 to become US Congressman of our district. Right today, I want to hold Fred to the promises he made all of us as Tea Party Patriots. I would like for his office to start posting all legislative matters on this website for us to provide feedback and interaction. That would be a great start.
