His thesis is that Islam and the Qur'an originated in Syria-Palestine and that the Qur'an was pasted together largely from Aramaic texts and the story of Muhammad is myth.
He ties this into early Christian heresies, such as Gnosticism, that revolve around the nature of Jesus Christ: divine or not? Intriguing thesis.
