Liberty and Freedom
So far, Bloomberg has outlawed Big Gulps, salt, and trans fats. Now--moms beware--if you aren't breastfeeding, expect NYC to lecture you on that, too.
From the government propaganda website:
" Latch On NYC is a citywide initiative designed to support mothers who choose to breastfeed. Through a voluntary commitment, hospitals provide additional support to breastfeeding mothers and minimize practices that can interfere with that choice . . ."
http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/ms/latchonnyc.shtml (for your convenience, you can also download several pdf ads to promo this "initiative" yourself. How thoughtful of NYC to include them!)
In other words, NYC will be making all your most personal choices for you.
Thanks to this initiative, infant formula is now classed as a "controlled substance".
" Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
"Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives."
In addition, hospital staff are required to lecture the new mother about the "mistake" she's making EVERY TIME SHE REQUESTS FORMULA.
Government control: always begins as a "voluntary" program that becomes INvoluntary.
There must be plenty of extra tax dollars floating around NYC to launch and advertise such an invasive program.
One commenter got it right:
" So, first public health officials (and, of course, formula manufacturers) told women that the best thing for their babies was formula, and shamed and harassed women who chose to breastfeed by telling them how primitive and barbaric it was. And now public health officials are telling mothers that it’s bad for their babies to use formula, because it’s not natural.
"And yet I know people in public health who wonder why there’s a confidence gap."
That was back when the government was getting pay-offs from formula manufacturers. When it comes to the government, it's NEVER about health--always about control and money.
You can choose an abortion in NYC, but DON'T YOU DARE give that baby formula!
