Liberty and Freedom
"ANN ARBOR, MI – In the middle of an event to extol the virtues of the U.S. Constitution and “American Laws For American Courts,” the audience learned first-hand how easy it is to lose their freedom of Speech and Assembly.
"Amid shouts of “What about free speech?” from the audience, the Allegan Police Department ordered the event shut-down. School officials notified police that they had received a letter complaining about the event from Dawud Walid, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI). The letter asked the school to disallow the event despite an existing contract. CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism funding trial in U. S. history, U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation."

"As a result, the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced yesterday that the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR- MI), its Executive Director, the City of Allegan, the Allegan Police Department and the School District were named as defendants in a thirty-four page civil rights lawsuit filed in the Federal District Court for the Western District of Michigan, this morning. The claims included constitutional and contract violations. [Click here for copy of federal complaint]
"Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Law Center commented, “It’s amazing how much clout CAIR has with the political establishment of both parties in Lansing and throughout Michigan and the nation. This, despite the fact that CAIR has its roots in the Muslim Brotherhood, was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, and the FBI’s former chief of counterterrorism, noted that CAIR, its leaders, and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups."
Continued Thompson, “Press accounts make it clear that an indictment naming CAIR as a defendant in the Holy Land Foundation trial was squelched by Attorney General Holder’s office despite vehement objections by FBI agents and the federal prosecutors in Dallas.”
"At first the Allegan police chief police indicated he shut down the event because of threats to one of the speakers, Kamal Saleem; however, shortly thereafter, the chief admitted to a reporter that there was no specific threat to the event and no real danger at all. In fact, no specific threats of violence relating to the event were received by the City of Allegan, its police department, the Allegan Public School District or Allegan Public High School."
I attended this event and arrived 30 min early. Allegan PD was already there, but they waited an hour, until we were 30 min into the program, right as Saleem was beginning to speak, before they walked in and told us to leave, on the false pretext that the rumor of a bounty on Saleem's head made the event "unsafe". In reality, CAIR had complained and CAIR, a well-documented terrorist group, has a lot of ties to MI state officials and the White House. CAIR undoubtedly threatened to sue the school and probably also the City of Allegan if the event was permitted to take place. I've not been able to see a copy of the letter Walid (CAIR) sent yet, but their m.o. is always the same: threats of litigation in the name of "religious freedom".

Comment by Gordie WH on May 11, 2012 at 8:22am C-Span has a video on the huge influence James Madison had on our separation of church and state. The religious intolerance during the colonial period is revealed. The video is about an hour and a half including Q&A. For a better understanding of Madison and the Constitution based on current historical research, the time spent is well worth it.
Comment by Jennifer Groves on May 3, 2012 at 7:56am The Qur'an calls, repeatedly, for the killing of all unbelievers (in contrast to the Bible, which doesn't). If you haven't read the Qur'an in chronological order, pls at least read the Medina (final) suras. They explain so much.
No Muslim will refute the Qur'an, ever. And they know exactly what it calls for. That's where taqiyya comes into play. Don't be fooled.
I am frustrated by so-called "conservative" Islamic experts who want to divide Islam into political vs religious roles. Muslims never make such a distinction--bec it doesn't exist in the Qur'an.
The essence of Islam is establishing a global caliphate where all law is based on the Qur'an/hadith/sira--none of which are compatible with any individual freedom whatsoever and cannot coexist with a republic.
The Allah of Islam is not the God of the Bible. That is where a lot of Christians in particular, who don't know their Bible well, get confused. They choose to believe Islam's false claims instead of the Bible. Big, big, big mistake.
No Christian doctrine that is biblically based calls for the killing of all non-Christians. It isn't a Christian doctrine if it does. I agree there are some groups who abuse the name "Christian" and use books other than the Bible to create their theology.
Comment by Gordie WH on May 3, 2012 at 6:29am A friend of mine informed me of Muslim Mafia last year, although I haven't read it yet.
As per our First Amendment, I have no problem with freedom of religion, including proselytising. Jehovah Witnesses and Mormon paired missionaries come to mind. I did a Christian missionary stint myself many years ago. Generally, all except extreme radical Muslims don't abuse the First Amendment. CAIR seems bent on replacing our entire legal system with sharia. Such attempts remind me of the coerced moral law of Puritan Massachusetts in the 17th century as detailed by Murray Rothbard.
As most folks here know, the basis for our law is English common law. English common law predates the Magna Carta by some 300 years and Islam by a few centuries. The first codification of English common law I'm aware of was written by Alfred the Great in his Doom Book. The Doom Book was based on a blending of the 10 Commandments with the Christian principles of Celtic law and Anglo-Saxon customs. Even earlier, around the turn of the 5th century, the Celtic monk Pelagius was espousing free will and equality in the British Isles.
Islam, like some Christian doctrine, disallows free will. The will of God trumps all else. From my perspective such doctrines are opposed to individual liberty and freedom. Sharia is one such doctrine.
Comment by Jennifer Groves on May 2, 2012 at 7:02pm Thanks for the update, Gordie. I'm not surprised they won't comment. There are literally truckloads of evidence against CAIR in every state. For a great start, try Muslim Mafia by Sperry and Gaubatz--they ran an undercover fbi sting operation and got loads of internal docs proving all sorts of scams, even against fellow Muslims.
The TMLC attorney was also interviewed on the radio--

Comment by Gordie WH on May 2, 2012 at 7:00am Thanks Jennifer for this post, the link to the original Thomas More article, and a copy of the federal complaint.
Good luck with your efforts to acquire a copy of the Walid letter. The letter should verify CAIR’s intimidation tactic of threatening litigation.
CAIR’s threats based on religious freedom seem bogus IMO, considering the Allegan event was not a religious event.
I support HB 4769.
Michigan Radio has reported this morning, Thursday May 2, that Allegan city attorney has refused comment on the suit.
